As our year comes to a close, I am continually impressed by the dedication and musicality of all the singers in Marblehead's Choral Music Program. The Jewel Tones and Luminescence will release their joint EP, C105, in the fall. The students and I have already listened to some drafts of the edited tracks, and they sound fabulous! We cannot wait to share this EP with you!

The Women's and Mixed Choirs are busy preparing for the Spring Concert on June 1st. Our performances will feature some pieces we have performed previously (This Little Light of Mine and Give Us Hope) as well as several new selections. Highlights include You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel and Pure Imagination from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

THE JEWEL TONES by Maeve Reilly

As the academic and a cappella year slowly come to a close, we wanted to take this time to fill you in on all that The Jewel Tones have been doing and will continue to do during our spring season. In early April, we enjoyed performing at one of our absolute favorite concerts of the year, Acappellooza. At Acappellooza XII, The Jewel Tones performed six pieces and shared the stage with the other MHS groups and the Northeastern University Nor'easters while raising money for both our department and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Overall, it was a great night. Since then, The Jewel Tones have been working on an exciting new project: a collaboration E.P. with Luminescence. The E.P., titled C105 (after the room number of the classroom where we rehearse), is set to be released in the fall. C105 will feature six songs, three from Luminescence and three from The Jewel Tones. Our contribution to the E.P. will include Aurora’s “Runaway,” Maroon 5’ “Sunday Morning,” and Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek.” Next week, The Jewel Tones will be recording Hide and Seek, as the other two pieces have already been recorded earlier this season. We enjoyed performing at Voices Carry in late April and Sing On this past weekend, and thank all who attended these shows! This spring season has held lots of new music for The Jewel Tones which we’ve loved getting the chance to learn and perform, including Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek,” Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You,” Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely,” and One Republic’s “Counting Stars” (which we have yet to debut). We have several performances left for the remainder of the year including the Spring Concert on June 1st, graduation on June 11th (at which we will perform Rascal Flatts’ “My Wish”), and some smaller appearances around town. We thank you again for your continued support throughout the year and are can’t wait to finish The Jewel Tones 2016-2017 year out strong. The year has truly been one of our bests as a group and we couldn’t have done it without you!

LUMINESCENCE by Ginevra Caswell

Thank you all who came to support Luminescence during our competition season! Don't miss the last couple chances to see Lumi in its 2016-2017 year! We have two new songs since competition which including Tears with soloist Alanna Herrey and Red with soloist Mari Aoki We are also currently working on Weight in Gold by Gallant. Don't miss the High School Spring Concert at the MVMS Performing Arts Center on Thursday, June 1st. This free, 7pm concert will be an incredible opportunity to see all the hard work of the music department at Marblehead High School. Even if you can't make to any of these events you can always listen to us on our joint EP with Jewel Tones! This compilation (titled C105) includes all three of our competition songs and will be released this fall.

GRIZZLY FREAKIN' MAN SINGERS by Charles Morgan

After their excellent performance at Acappellooza XII the Grizzlies worked on polishing up their set for their last concert of the year Sing On, which was this past weekend. The Grizzlies performed their final set of the year on Sunday at Sing On, they were happy to see some alumni in the audience who joined them for Nah Nah Hey Hey at the end. Since there aren't any more performances and graduation is coming up The Grizzlies will have their last few wrap up rehearsals in the coming weeks, one of which will be dedicated to electing a new music director for next year. Thank you all so much for coming to our performances and supporting us, we've had a great year and can't wait for the next!

SERENDIPITY by Eleanor Mancusi-Ungaro Serendipity has been highly successful in the last two months. After performing at Acappellooza XII (debuting their version of "Can't Help Falling in Love With You") and singing at Voices Carry with the choirs from grades seven through twelve, the group is pushing towards the final concert of the year, Song On, held at St. Andrew's Church in Marblehead. In addition to the usual set, Serendipity has been attending Thursday rehearsals with Luminescence and Jewel Tones to learn a song that all four groups will perform to end the concert. Following the concert, members of Serendipity voted to elect Megan Spreen as Internal Affairs Manager, replacing Julia Broman. The group voted on songs to learn in the fall. It's been a productive year fro the group, and officers Eliza Howells, Eleanor Mancusi-Ungaro and Megan Spreen will work hard to make sure that the 2017-2018 school year is just as good as this one's been.
